BLVD Vet launched BLVD Cat to create a space that prioritizes the health and comfort of our feline patients. Since Boulevard Veterinary’s inception in 2015, our Core Values have included Best Patient and Client Care and a Vibrant & Professional Environment.
While we continuously strive to meet those intentions for all patients, we knew if we asked most cats what could do to make their experience better, they’d tell us to get the dogs out of town!
When we met Dr. Lenyr Muñoz, her passion for feline medicine and the quality of their experience at the vet gave us the confidence to create something exclusive and special just for our feline patients. Now here we are, in 2024 with BLVD Cat!
The inception of BLVD Cat arose from a deep fondness for felines among BLVD Vet’s owners and founders, Dr. Dylan Frederickson and Director of Design, Kelly Frederickson. Their handsome grey fellow, Smokey-Panther, was plucked from a barn in Wisconsin as a kitten and 14 years later still proudly rules their home.
Within the ranks of BLVD's management and clinical staff, many are devoted cat enthusiasts, including our Vice President, Audrey Laroche, who proudly bears a tattoo on her arm in memory of her and her husband’s cherished companion, Guinness. Given the deep bench of passionate feline lovers within BLVD Vet, we always dreamed of designing a space exclusively for cats, free from the negative stimuli that can be especially triggering for them.
When the opportunity presented itself to repurpose BLVD Vet Ravenswood’s underutilized office space into a clinical haven, we jumped at the opportunity to bring this vision to life. Collaborating closely with the skilled team at RWE Design Build, Kelly Frederickson created an inviting environment tailored specifically for cats, complete with cat perches.
We recognize that cats are not just pets but cherished members of your family. We also recognize that not all cats enjoy leaving their home and trips to the vet are put off because when your cat is anxious, it can create a stressful situation. Our mission is to provide exceptional veterinary care exclusively for cats, addressing their distinct challenges and needs.
Cats are unique creatures, often experiencing significant stress during vet visits due to unfamiliar environments, loud noises, and the presence of other animals. This stress can lead to reluctance in seeking necessary care, which can negatively impact their health.
At BLVD Cat, we’ve designed our practice to reduce these stressors, creating a more serene, cat-friendly environment.
Specialized Care:
By focusing exclusively on cats, our team of doctors and veterinary professionals have developed a deep understanding of feline-specific medical issues and behaviors. This specialization allows us to offer more accurate diagnoses, tailored treatments, and advanced care that meets the highest standards.
Less Stressful Environment:
From the moment you and your cat step through our doors, you’ll notice the difference. Our waiting area is quiet, devoid of barking dogs, and filled with calming pheromones. Our exam rooms are designed to make your cat feel safe and comfortable, with soft lighting, cozy bedding, perches, and plenty of hiding spots.
Expertise and Empathy:
Our team is not only skilled in feline medicine but also passionate about cat care. We approach each visit with empathy, patience, and a commitment to making your cat’s experience as positive as possible.
At BLVD Cat, we are dedicated to enhancing the lives of cats and their owners through compassionate care, innovative treatments, and a deep understanding of feline needs. We require everyone on BLVD Cat’s veterinary care team to have a Cat Friendly Veterinarian, Cat Friendly Professional, or Cat Friendly Veterinary Advocate certificate to ensure their advanced commitment to feline care. We believe that every cat deserves a healthcare experience that respects their nature and promotes their well-being.
Join us on our journey to redefine cat care and ensure that your feline companion receives the best possible treatment in a cat-centric environment.
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine
Dr. Lenyr Muñoz grew up in Miami, Florida. As an artistic child who liked to draw pictures of animals, she knew she would be either a graphic designer or an animal scientist. She first attended art school before moving to Chicago (where she has resided since 1996). After doing creative work for several years, she realized she’d rather be a veterinarian. As a full-time web designer, she attended night classes and took a part-time job as a veterinary assistant to prepare for this career shift.
Since graduating in 2014 from the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine, she has worked in both feline-specific and general practice. She also volunteers with high-volume spay and neuter clinics and is the staff veterinarian for The Catcade, a non-profit feline rescue.
Dr. Lenyr joined BLVD Vet Ravenswood in 2020 and, of course, a trail of cats followed her. As our resident feline maestro, she helped shape the realization that our BLVD patients had a real need for a feline-only veterinary experience. Dr. Lenyr has been a core part of the inception of BLVD Cat and has assisted in guiding decisions made about the space to ensure the most comfortable experience possible for you and your cats!
Dr. Lenyr truly enjoys connecting with people, but particularly those who are as cat-obsessed as she is (if that’s even possible)! She prioritizes the absolute best care for every single paw that comes through the door and loves to help cat owners become their cat’s best health advocate.
While not cooking vegetarian food, long distance walking, gardening or reading, Dr. Lenyr shares her life with her husband John and their two cats, Febby and Lambert.
